The 29-year-old Janyk, who trails only Nancy Greene in total national crowns, finished with a two-run combined time of one minute 58.68 seconds at the GMC Canadian Championships.

"I am just going to keep trying," Janyk said with a laugh when asked if she could catch Greene's record of 17.

First-run leader Marie-Pier Prefontaine of Saint-Sauveur, Que., ended up in second place in a time of 1:59.1 while Shona Rubens of Canmore, Alta., was 0.07 behind Prefontaine in third.

Janyk also won the women's downhill earlier this week at Nakiska Resort. Giant slalom has been her best event at the nationals with five golds.

"GS is an event that I am trying to get some good results in," said Janyk. "I am trying to get in there in order to start World Cups in the top 30 in GS and this will definitely help."

The competition wraps up Saturday with the men's and women's slalom.
