"Today the Russians were not as strong as they usually are during their powerplays, while we were," said Czech goalkeeper Jakub Kovar, who added that he was not affected by Saturday's 7-0 thrashing by Finland.
Kovar was not seriously tested, however, as the defending Euro Tour champion, fielding a young team, managed just 19 shots in the match. Russia finishes bottom on three points and could also lose its Tour lead if Sweden beats Finland in regulation.
"It was important to give many of the young players this kind of big match experience. It was high level play today and it was good to give these players a tough test," said Russia coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov.
The Euro Hockey Tour's final leg is the Czech Hockey Games on April 26-29.
