HIT:
Marvellous Marty: Martin Brodeur blanks Colorado 4-0 in his first game since undergoing elbow surgery in November. It was the 99th shutout of Brodeur’s career, leaving him just four behind Terry Sawchuk’s all-time record of 103.

Martin Brodeur

AS a lifelong Canadiens fan, I should despise Brodeur, but what can you say about the man who is poised to inscribe his name in the recordbooks as one of the best goalies of his generation&arguably the best goalie of all time. He will soon own the shutout record&the all time win record. He has done it with hard work&poise but I would have really rather had him backstoping the Canadiens. The old expression, "If you can't beat them, join them" rings true as it appears he always had Montreals (&other teams) number.

Seriously, how childish can you get. Of the 3 of you who have posted so far, only the first has actually posted something of any real value. Now for a real discussion here.
Brodeur is not just arguably the best, he is the best, and he got to where he's at because he excels at the hybrid goaltending style. As a goaltender for St. Hyacinthe of the QMJHL, he used the butterfly style. At that point he was good, but not really stellar, not really an elite goaltender. He didn't really become the goaltender he is now until he started learning to play the hybrid style with Vladislav Tretiak, the Soviet goaltender in the '72 Summit Series. The hybrid style not only utilizes the strengths of the butterfly technique to improve upon the stand-up style, but hybrid style goaltenders are also not as prone to injury as butterfly goaltenders, particularly in the groin.
There is no doubt that Brodeur has done well, and has done well for a long time, and this is all because he is exceptionally skilled at what is arguably the best goaltending style in hockey.
